Early Learning Coalition of Santa Rosa County COVID-19 Updates (3.23.2020):

Providers and Parents: Both our Milton and Gulf Breeze offices will be closed to the public effective at 8:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 23, 2020, until further notice. Our staff will continue to work onsite during regular business hours and are available to assist you by telephone. Please continue to call 850-983-5313 for assistance. We have provided updated information below regarding School Readiness (SR) and Voluntary Pre-Kindergarten (VPK).

  • The Florida Department of Education/Office of Early Learning (OEL) has agreed to:

    • Reimburse early learning programs based on active enrollments (both School Readiness and Voluntary Pre-K) regardless of the decision to remain open or to close due to the outbreak of COVID-19. All absences in both programs will be reimbursed until further notice

    • Eliminate all requirements for remaining child screening/assessments and provider program assessments for the 2019-20 program year

    • Extend timelines for provider improvement plans and reports

  • OEL has asked that providers wait to submit updates to the 19/20 VPK calendars until normal business operations have resumed.

  • Coalitions have been told by OEL that they are currently working on provisions to possibly temporarily suspend termination of School Readiness eligibility, extend timeframes for School Readiness redetermination, and wave parent copay fees. The Coalition will provide more information when we receive documentation from OEL.

  • All SR and VPK providers that make the decision to remain open are urged to adhere to the Centers for Disease Control’s recommendation to keep classroom size to 10 or fewer children, regardless of ratio allowances.

  • All SR and VPK programs must follow strict guidelines for cleanliness and sanitation protocols in programs that remain open.

  • The Coalition encourages SR providers to continue operating whenever possible, as long as your program is safe, in order to assist working parents in maintaining employment; however, we also understand this is a difficult decision and one that each of you must make in the best interest of all concerned. If you make the determination to close your program you must email Darla Frame at frame@elcsantarosa.org or Melissa Stuckey at stuckey@elcsantarosa.org. If you must leave a message be sure to include the following information:

  • Your name

  • Name of center or home

  • Reason for closure

  • Effective date of closure

  • Anticipated date to reopen

Below we have provided links to helpful resources from several organizations to assist children, parents and educators during the outbreak COVID-19. We will continue to update this list as we receive additional information.
